The Friday Project - Update 8

What happened?

Where does the time go? And where are the regular Friday updates?

Things have been rather busy at work as we have an exciting project to work on, and I seem to be wearing my architect's hat more and more, so work on Whirling Frenzy has slowed down somewhat. It seems that one day it was almost Christmas, then all of a sudden it was the middle of February.

A new GUI

But enough of that. What has happened to the game since the last update? Here's a screenshot that should make it obvious.

In a nutshell, the GUI has been redesigned. The old GUI just didn't have the right look and feel, so after much sketching and prototyping I finally got something that can be worked with. In theory, simple GUIs are reasonably straightforward to implement, particularly if you're on Android and are following the guidelines. But you find yourself saying things like, "it would be nice if I could change controls mid game, because I hate it when games don't let you do that". And once you start doing that then you have to be quite careful about what you allow because otherwise you end up with very baffled users as the screen is covered with dials and buttons.

Glyphicons

I should point out that most of the icons come from Glyphicons. When this game finally goes live then I would be very surprised if it is using anything else, because the look and feel that they give is exactly what I'm looking for.

Download

Here's a link to the latest version. As usual, you can download it directly to your Android device, or scan the QR code. Everything should work except for the drop-down to change the device's aspect ratio, as that hasn't been implemented yet.
